January 10, 2023 – TheNewswire – TransAlta Corporation (NYSE:TAC) and Lafarge Canada have partnered on a project to repurpose landfilled fly ash, a waste product from TransAlta’s Canadian coal-fired electricity operations, in the production of concrete.

This sustainable approach to waste management not only reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills but also decreases the carbon footprint of the concrete industry.

The project will use the Ash-TEK Ponded Ash Beneficiation System to process the fly ash and ensure it meets regulatory standards and market expectations. This partnership is a positive step towards a low-carbon economy, promoting sustainable economic growth and reducing environmental impact.

Blain van Melle, TransAlta Corporation’s Executive Vice President stated: “Using fly ash to make concrete creates a valuable opportunity to recycle one of the largest waste streams in North America.”

Lafarge is Canada’s largest provider of sustainable and innovative building solutions including Aggregates, Cement, Ready Mix and Precast Concrete, Asphalt and Paving, and Road and Civil Construction.

TransAlta Corporation owns, operates and develops a diverse fleet of electrical power generation assets in Canada, the United States and Australia with a focus on long-term shareholder value.
